Nigerian Govt Pledges Commitment To West African Gas Pipeline Project

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo has reiterated Nigeria’s support for the West African Gas Pipeline Project, emphasizing the government’s dedication to realizing its full potential.

In his speech, In an address at the WAGP Authority Committee of Ministers meeting in Cotonou, Benin Republic, Ekpo highlighted Nigeria’s proactive stance in fostering regional cooperation, ensuring energy stability, and capitalizing on its abundant natural gas resources.

He emphasized the nation’s goal of transforming gas into a primary energy source, outlining initiatives aimed at harnessing over five billion cubic feet of gas daily for domestic and export markets.

Notably, he mentioned endeavors like the Presidential CNG programme and the Nigerian Gas Expansion Programme, designed to incentivize the transition from liquid fuel to gas for automobiles.

Moreover, The Minister assured member countries, including Benin, Togo, and Ghana, of uninterrupted gas supply from Nigeria to meet their domestic needs through N-Gas Limited.

He also underscored the significance of payment performance for sustained gas supply, emphasizing the necessity of honoring commitments to both N-Gas and WAPCO for a sustainable gas supply chain.

Additionally, Ekpo pledged support for initiatives addressing pressure challenges within the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company, emphasizing projects aimed at connecting eastern gas reserves with western and northern demand regions and installing midline compressors as part of the holistic solution to pressure issues in the Escravos Lagos Pipeline System.

The Minister’s remark at the meeting echoed Nigeria’s steadfast dedication to regional energy cooperation, emphasizing the country’s role in driving the success of the West African Gas Pipeline Project.
