Nigerian Govt Promises Online Biometric System, Home Delivery For Passport By 2024

The Nigerian government has unveiled plans to revolutionize the passport application process, introducing a biometric system and promising home delivery of passports by 2024.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed these initiatives during the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit organized by Nigeria in Diaspora (NIDCOM).

Speaking on challenges faced by Nigerians during passport application process, Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized the imminent shift toward a seamless, digitized system.

“A fully biometric immigration application process obtainable in most foreign countries to reduce human contact and convenient passport collection is underway before February 2024,” he stated.

Assuring convenience and efficiency, the Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to delivering top-notch service to citizens both at home and abroad.

He urged Nigerians to report any unethical behavior by ministry officers to combat corruption and enhance service delivery.

The plan also includes a collaboration with the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) to ensure the home delivery of passports across the country by 2024.

“We have commenced the automation of our end-to-end passport application process,” Tunji-Ojo explained, promising an expedited two-week processing time and the convenience of online applications starting January next year.

This announcement marks a leap in enhancing citizen services, promising a streamlined and convenient process for Nigerians applying for passports, ultimately striving toward effective and corruption-free service delivery.
