Nigerian Govt Declares Monday Public Holiday To Mark Eid-ul-Mawlid

The Nigerian Government has declared Monday, 16 September, as a public holiday for the Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.

Eid-ul-Mawlid is an Islamic feast to commemorate the birth of Holy Prophet Muhammad.

A  statement released Friday, by Magdalene Ajani, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior, said the interior minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the public holiday declaration on behalf of the federal government.

The statement said the minister congratulated Muslims both at home and in the diaspora on this occasion.

Dr Tunji-Ojo urged the Muslims and Nigerians generally “to imbibe the spirit of patience, sacrifice, and resilience.”

The minister also enjoined them to use the occasion to pray for the peace and prosperity of the country.
