At a recent event anchored by Lead One TV, business consultant and leadership expert, Fela Durotoye spoke passionately about the need for good governance in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of having a critical mass of good people with the right heart, vision, character, and capacity to make the best decisions for the rest of the country.
Durotoye identified individuals like Peter Obi, Ben Bruce, and Senator Lafayette as examples of good people who could make a positive impact on the country. However, he emphasized the need for more than just a few individuals; a critical mass of such people was necessary at every level, including federal, state, and local.
The business consultant acknowledged that the current situation in Nigeria was a conundrum, where those who should run for office were waiting for voters, and those who should vote were waiting for aspirants.
He also noted that financially induced voting was prevalent, and permanent voter cardholders who were enlightened often did not vote.
In addition, he stressed the importance of democracy in the political parties, with members having the voting rights to decide the candidates amongst the aspirants, not delegates. He urged the need for a movement to make this critical mass of good people happen as quickly as possible.
Fela Durotoye predicted that the world would witness the largest insidious ever of people coming back home within the next seven years, and this would be made possible by good governance. He promised that this would happen, provided that Nigeria could build a critical mass of good people who would make the best decisions for the country.
