The leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation on Friday confirmed the appointment of Manu Garba as the new head coach of the Golden Eaglets, reports Prime Business Africa.

Manu Garba was the head coach of the cadet side that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2013.

Some of the players that lifted the tournament for a record fourth time has gone on to represent the country at the senior cadre with the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac Success and Dele Alampasu becoming Super Eagles players several years later.

The Eaglets went further to retain that title two years later in Chile when Emmanuel Amunike led the Eaglets to a fifth triumph and introduce stars like Victor Osimhen Samuel Chukwueze and Kelechi Nwakali to the world.

The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) had on Thursday  announced that the competition will now hold every year and not bi-annual as has been the situation since the inaugural edition in 1985 when China hosted the tournament then known as the Kodak U-16 World Cup.

Nduka Ugbade was the last coach of the Golden Eaglets but his charges failed to qualify for the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Peru after they faltered at the Africa U-17 Nations Cup in Algeria last year.
