NBA Dissolves All Standing, Ad-hoc Committees

As the expiration of tenure of the current administration of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) draws closer, the president, Olumide Akpata has on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) dissolved all standing and ad-hoc committees of the association.

A statement signed by the NBA Publicity Secretary, Dr. Rapulu Nduka indicated that the Technical Committee on Conference Planning and the Electoral Committee of the NBA, were retained. It added that a transition committee has also been constituted to oversee smooth handover to the incoming administration.

Members of the Transition Committee include:
1. Paul Harris Ogbole SAN – Chairman
2. Aderemi Oguntoye
3. Bulus Atsen
4. Desmond Ogba
5. Tolu Aderemi
6. Benard Onigah
7. Ovonlen Ebholimen
8. Grace Igyo
9. Ayodeji Oni
10. Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem

According to the statement, NBA thanked all who worked in the various committees for the hard work and dedication in carrying out their responsibilities within the period.

“The National Executive Committee of the NBA sincerely appreciates the various committees for their hardwork and support for this administration.”

It also charged members of the Transition Committee “to properly discharge their duties in line with their Terms of Reference,” Dr. Nduka added.

NBA is planning to hold Annual General Conference which will commence on 19th August 2022; the Pre-conference NEC meeting on 21st August; and the Annual General Meeting on 25th August 2022.

 

The tenure of the current administration of NBA is expected to end during the AGM when new executive would be elected.

Explaining the reason for the dissolution, the notice issued to members of the association read, “On the inauguration of the present leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association, and in the course of its duties, various Standing and Ad-hoc Committees were constituted to assist in the smooth running of the outgoing administration.

“However, ahead of the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing administration, the NBA President on behalf of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, has dissolved all standing and Ad-Hoc Committees of the Association, with the exception of the Technical Committee on Conference Planning and the Electoral Committee of The Nigerian Bar Association, and further constitutes a Transition Committee.”
