National Convention: APC Raises 20 Sub-committees

With the date for the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) National Convention finally set after months of horsetrading and foot-dragging, the ruling party has constituted 20 sub-committees.

According to a memo released by the Mai Mala Buni-led  APC Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), the convention slated for March 26, 2022, will have 20 sub-committees to oversee different aspects of the exercise.

The document detailing the constitution of the committees, signed by the CECPC national secretary, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, shows that chairmanship of various sub-committees were assigned to APC state governors.

With the Central Planning Committee still having the 12-man CECPC to be supported by a 7-man team from the party Secretariat, the Accreditation Committee has 41 members.

Other sub-committees are made up of 40 members each.

The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN is chairman of the Legal Committee; The Screening Committee is headed by Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq and Barr. Emmanuel Chikwu Emeka as Secretary; Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State is chairman of the Screening Appeal Committee with Barr. Shuaibu Aruwa SAN as Secretary. The Accreditation Committee has Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as chairman, Election Committee is headed by Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, and Sen. John Enoh as Secretary, while Kastina state Governor, Bello Masari will serve as Election Appeal Committee Chairman.

Other committees are Accommodation Committee under the chairmanship of Zamfara State governor; Venue/Decoration/Site Servicing Committee has Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State as chairman and Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State heads Transport/Logistics Committee. Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu heads the Media/Publicity, committee, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State leads the Security/Protocol Committee, while Entertainment/Welfare Committee has Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Wase as chairman and Cross Rivers State Governor, Ben Ayade heads the Medicals.

Accreditation of Volunteers/Diplomats/ Observers will be chaired by Minister of Foriegn Affairs, Geoffery Onyeama; Budget Committee is to be chaired by Gombe State governor, Inuwa Yahaya, while Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State is to head the Finance Committee.

The party convention will also have Digital Sub-committee headed by Kashifu Inuwa and Convention Legacy and Rapporteur Committee has Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum as chairman.
