Manchester United and Newcastle United are locked in battle for the signature of Nigeria-born Germany international, Felix Nmecha.

The 24-year-old is not the biggest name in European football, but he’s really started to impress at Dortmund, playing a key role for the club last season as they reached the final of the Champions League.

Nmecha was previously on the books at Manchester City as a youngster, though he made only two senior appearances for the club before moving on.

Nmecha who has featured for Germany in two friendlies against Peru and Belgium is also said to be on the radar of Aston Villa.

Should Manchester United succeed in grabbing the former VfL Wolfsburg midfielder, it would be a huge plus for the Red Devils who are currently struggling under new manager Ruben Amorim. Amorin and his boys have now suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

Nmecha could give MUFC something a bit different in midfield, and if a deal really can be done for as cheap as €40m then it could be really smart business. There are also talks that he could attract transfer fee of €45m

Newcastle, meanwhile, are also big admirers of Nmecha, with Magpies boss Eddie Howe understood to have expressed his desire to bring in a player of his profile as a priority.

Ironically Nmecha scored his first goal for Dortmund on October 25, 2023 in a 1–0 away victory against Newcastle United at St James’ Park in the Champions League, which was also his first goal in the competition.

The son of a German mother and an Igbo Nigerian father, Nmecha and his older brother Lukas were born in Hamburg, but moved to England with their family in 2007.

After honing their skills in the Hamburg borough of Altona, the switch to Manchester brought the young Nmechas to the attention of Premier League team Manchester City. Both went on to join the club’s academy.

Nmecha who takes his Christian faith seriously, often says “Every time I go on the field, it’s not about me, it’s about glorifying God.”

This season he has featured in all 13 Dortmund games scoring two goals and grabbing one assist. Dortumund are currently 6th on the table with 21 points, and host TSG 1899 Hoffenheim who are 14th on the log at the Signal Iduna Park on Sunday.
