In a bid to avoid mental health struggles and possible suicidal thoughts, Manchester United are poised to support embattled forward Mason Greenwood to navigate through his difficult times following his attempted rape and assault charges.
Greenwood will attempt to rebuild his career at La Liga side Getafe whilst reportedly living in an £8k a month villa that the club have paid for.
The 21-year-old was arrested back in January 2022 and charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
However, those charges were dropped earlier this year for lack of substantial witness.
The striker had been set to be reintegrated back into the Manchester United first team but was later axed after widespread backlash from the fanbase who threatened to sue the club and not buy season tickets.
Greenwood moved to Getafe on Deadline Day Friday night in a season-long loan deal.
But despite stating they “recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career” with United, and that “it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford”, the club have not torn up Greenwood’s £75k-a-week contract which runs until 2025.
Instead, The Sun on Sunday report the Red Devils still remain actively involved with the forward.
They are said to have “worked round the clock to create a bespoke care package” for Greenwood, who they suspended originally back in January 2022, ahead of his Deadline Day move.
The report indicate that the player’s family and friends will be allowed to travel to Spain to be with the forward as it is considered risky to let him live alone in the house.
Greenwood would also have an English/Spanish translator at his beck and call all day long to make communication easier between him and his Spanish teammates and coaches.
Meanwhile the La Liga side have handed the Englishman the jersey number 12.
