Maiduguri varsity gets N1billion ASR Africa grant

The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), as part of its first cohort of Tertiary Education Grants Scheme, has provided a N1billion to the University of Maiduguri to develop the Centre for Innovation and Product Development at the Universitu of Maiduguri Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (UM-CEED) Complex. This was announced during the presentation of the grant award by ASR Africa to the University management in Maiduguri.

Aliyu Idi Hong, representing the Chairman of ASR Africa and BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, said that the ASR Africa Initiative had already started disbursing its tertiary education grants to six universities in its first cohort. University of Maiduguri is the third to reveive the grant after Ahmadu Bello University, and University of Ibadan. He further disclosed that the project initiation process and development of mutual accountability frameworks to guide the grant usage for the University’s Centre for Innovation and Product Development would commence immediately.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Aliyu Shugaba praised Rabiu for founding the Initiative and for being consistent in commiting to philanthropy. The Vice-Chancellor also extolled he said were the good works OF ASR Africa in various communities across Africa. He thanked the philanthropist for the grant. He furthermore reassured the representatives that the University Management, Staff and Students would remain grateful to ASR Africa for the gesture.

University of Maiduguri is one of the six Nigerian Universities in a first cohort to benefit from a donation of One Billion Naira from the ASR Africa Initiative as part of its Tertiary Education Grants Scheme.
