In continuation of his visit to match venues, Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, was part of the spectators as Kano Pillars came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win over reigning champions, Rangers International on Sunday.

Rangers stunned the usual huge crowd at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano after 33 minutes, when Bashir Usman shot the flying Antelopes into the lead through the penalty.

The celebration was however short lived, for the Coal City Boys, after CHAN Eagles midfielder, Rabiu Ali, drew the home team level also from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute before Jerry Alex’s diving header sealed victory for homers.

The victory saw Pillars climb to fourth on the log with 42 points from 27 matches, with Rangers just a point behind.

Chelle who has been to a number of other league venues, used the opportunity of being at the Sani Abacha Stadium, to also assess Eagles ace, Ahmed Musa, who was in action for Pillars for the entire duration of the clash against Rangers.

Musa, who holds Nigeria’s highest goal-scoring record at the World Cup with four goals, leads the list of Nigerian players who have successfully returned to the local league after playing abroad.

The former Al-Nassr and Leicester City star, who scored two goals against Argentina at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, scored a brace against Iceland at the 2018 edition in Russia to increase his World Cup goals to four.

It is not yet known whether the 32-year-old will get Chelle and his technical crew’s nod for Eagles return ahead of the double header World Cup qualifier against Rwanda and Zimbabwe this month.

Chelle needs good results in the forthcoming matches to flag off his mandate of ensuring that Super Eagles who missed the last world cup in Qatar, make it to the 2026 World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.

Meanwhile, Remo Stars, continued their impressive run in the league with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Plateau United in Ikenne, Ogun state on Sunday. The table toppers are not in a hurry to drop points as the race in the league continues.

Samson Olasupo, a mid-season signing and former striker for Sunshine Stars, was the hero scoring a 74th minute goal to hand the Daniel Ogumodede led side the three points at stake.

In other matches played at the weekend, Ikorodu City hit Heartland 2-0, while Akwa United, ran away with a lone goal victory over Kastina United.
