This year, the focus has shifted to more intimate and reflective gatherings, including prayers in mosques and churches across the city.

Lagos State Governor, who spoke to the press earlier today, emphasized the importance of commemorating the nation’s independence with restraint in these trying times. He urged Lagosians to maintain a modest approach to the celebration while continuing to pray for the peace and progress of Nigeria and their beloved state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated, “In light of the economic challenges we face, it is prudent that we opt for a low-key celebration this year. Our commitment to responsible governance means prioritizing essential needs over extravagant festivities. I call upon all Lagosians to join me in commemorating this day with simplicity and solemnity, as we hope for a brighter future for our nation and state.”
The decision to scale down this year’s celebrations is seen as a responsible move by the government, as it aligns with efforts to manage resources effectively and channel them towards essential services and development projects.
While the absence of the traditional festivities may dampen the spirit for some, Lagosians remain optimistic that their collective prayers and efforts will contribute to the overall progress and prosperity of both Nigeria and Lagos State.
