Abdurrazaq Balogun, the Executive Secretary of Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), emphasized the urgent need for a substantial budget exceeding N10 billion annually for the next five years to revamp the security framework in Lagos State.

During the 17th Annual Town Hall Meeting On Security With The Governor, he said “In confronting our security challenges, we cannot afford to live in denial. We must surmount them,” stated Balogun during the event held in Lagos.

Balogun highlighted the array of security issues faced daily, including armed robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, cult-related murders, and more, stressing the importance of adequately funding security initiatives to achieve tangible results.

He emphasized that despite notable progress in certain areas, numerous challenges persist, necessitating a strategic and well-funded approach to tackle them effectively.

“The magnitude of assistance required by the police and other security agencies is vast, requiring over N10 billion yearly for five years to significantly transform the operations of the security architecture in Lagos State,” explained Balogun, underlining the significance of sustained investment.

The LSSTF, in its efforts to bolster security agencies in Lagos State, has supplied various equipment such as patrol vehicles, communication devices, Armoured Personnel Carriers, motorcycles, and patrol boats.

Balogun also stressed the fund’s expanded scope, encompassing additional sister agencies and critical community-based security structures, strengthening collaboration with the police authorities.

Providing deeper insights into the crime situation in Lagos, Deputy Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara, acting as Commissioner of Police, reported progress in curtailing criminal activities.

He highlighted the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and dangerous weapons, while also acknowledging the recorded murder cases and arrests related to kidnapping incidents.

Ayilara expressed concern over the rising instances of domestic violence and abuse, citing a number of gender-related violence cases and the corresponding suspects in custody.

The call for increased budgetary allocation for security enhancements in Lagos State underscores the persistent need for robust measures and resources to address multifaceted security challenges, safeguarding the populace and fostering a secure environment.
