However, the radio station said subsequent investigations and verification conducted with the Nigeria Police Force, local government authorities and community leaders established that the claims were unfounded.
In a statement signed by its Chairman and Programme Director, Otunba Dayo Ajiteru, the station acknowledged that the report was aired before it had been properly verified and accepted responsibility for the lapse.
The management stated that security agencies and community stakeholders confirmed there was no bandit attack in Imota and that no casualties or related incidents had been recorded.
“We take full responsibility for broadcasting the information before confirming the facts,” the statement said.
Gbedu FM expressed regret over the anxiety, fear and confusion the report may have caused among parents, students and residents of the community, describing the incident as unfortunate.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to responsible journalism, noting that accuracy, fairness and public safety remain fundamental to its operations.
The apology comes amid growing concerns over the spread of unverified information on security matters, with authorities repeatedly urging citizens and media organisations to verify claims through official channels before publication or broadcast.
Gbedu FM pledged to strengthen its editorial processes to prevent a recurrence and assured residents of Imota and neighbouring communities of its commitment to providing credible and accurate information.
