Kenya elections: Opposition Candidate Raila Odinga Files Petition In Court

Kenya's Odinga Shuns William Ruto's Presidential Inauguration Today

Mr. Raila Odinga who contested for president under Azimio la Umoja, the main opposition party during the recently concluded Kenya Election, has filed petition at the country’s Supreme Court.

Mr. Odinga and his party are seeking a redress on the August 9 presidential elections that saw deputy president, William Ruto emerge as winner.
Presidential candidate, Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua submitted their petition to the Supreme Court on Monday (today).

In the petition filed electronically, the opposition coalition and its presidential candidate, Raila Odinga want the supreme court to nullify the victory of William Ruto. They are asking the supreme court to compel the country’s Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) to conduct a fresh presidential election which would not be presided by the present chairman, Wafula Chebukati.

Also, contained in the petition is a relief for order to inspect the servers of the Kenya’s electoral commission and scrutiny of rejected and spoilt votes.
The order for inspection of the server is to thoroughly check the portal of the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission and a forensic audit of the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS) kits; the IEBC forms and the presidential election forms.
Local media reports also indicated Odinga and Martha Karua are seeking an order to summon Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti to produce statements, photographs, reports, equipment, laptops, phones and other gadgets and any other material connected/related to the conduct of the elections and found in possession of a Venezuela national arrested at Kenya’s International Airport in Nairobi the nation’s capital.

They also want Mr. Kinoti summoned and directed to produce laptop(s) allegedly retrieved and seized from Koech Geoffrey Kipngosos, an agent of UDA party and report on the forensic analysis and examination of the laptop(s) and content, local media reported.

The Supreme Court according to law, has 14 days, starting from today, to hear the petition and give its verdict.
