Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba, has reportedly tested positive in a testosterone test after his club’s win in a Serie A fixture against Udinese on August 20, a game in which he was benched.
Following the result of the test, Italy’s national anti-doping tribunal has suspended Pogba on a precautionary basis.
The former Manchester United midfielder has three days to request a B sample of the test. If sample B still tests positive, Pogba risks a maximum suspension and ban of four years- with an initial of two-years ban that can be doubled if found guilty to have intentionally taken the substance.
NADO in a statement to AFP on the matter said: “The National Anti-doping Tribunal informs that, in acceptance of the instance proposed by the National Antidoping Prosecutor, it has provided for the provisional suspension of the athlete Paul Labile Pogba.”
NADO stated that the discovery of “Non-endogenous testosterone metabolics” as a prohibited substance indicated a potential doping violation.
Pogba, a prominent player in France’s victorious 2018 World Cup campaign who faced a challenging 2022-2023 season marked by injuries and a blackmail scandal that put a pause on his career , had hopes of playing for Juventus against Lazio this weekend.
