The question has propped up after the controversial crossdresser opened up about the struggles of being a man, noting that men are overwhelmed by societal demands with no one ready to bother about their own needs.

He lamented that in many male-led societies; issues such as war and conflict remain prevalent, pointing to the burden of leadership often borne by men.
Expectations on men he further noted fail to consider men’s basic needs or provide meaningful support for their well-being.
“I woke up today, thinking, why am I a man? This country is in a hot mess because of a man, 99 per cent of the countries ruled by men are fighting a war because of men, as a man there are so many expectations from the time of slavery, that have not been changed, from the traditions and culture, and yet none of these feeds, or pay our bills, if you check now it always a man. In the end, God bless the human species. May God give me the strength and the 99+ others that believe in change”, he wrote.

Meanwhile, the gender controversy associated with fellow crossdresser, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, better known as Bobrisky, is not on the verge of abating after the 33-year-old claimed that he experiences menstrual pain an exclusive monthly circle for women.
In a recent Instagram post, Bobrisky opened up about his struggles with monthly menstrual flow, stating that it could be painful and emotional. While some have expressed support and understanding with the controversial character who jetted out of the country recently after a running battle with security agents over a pending bribery case, others questioned the validity the experience as menstrual circle biologically has always been an exclusive of womanhood.
He wrote: “Honestly, I feel I’m a complete woman. Sometimes, I break up when I am seeing my period because it’s painful.”
The claim has further complicated the algebraic equation over whether to refer to him as a he or a she. Recall that Bobrisky recently admitted being a man in court.
During his appearance at the Federal High Court in Lagos, Justice Abimbola Awogboro who sentenced him to six months imprisonment without the option of a fine for abusing the naira, had asked before the sentence “Are you a man or a woman?” Bobrisky responded, “I am a man.”
A social media user Rayabbey🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬 @realrayabbey however described the claim as unbelievable saying “Believe that you believe anything, next line of lies would be that he is pregnant and expecting a baby.”
Crossdressing in Nigeria has a long history, dating back to at least the 1970s. It was first linked with Uzoma Odimara, popularly called Area Scatter. He was a civil servant who dressed like a woman and was a popular performer in the 1970s. He was known for his braided hair and pierced ears.
