International Breweries Posts ₦26.4bn Q2 Profit, Reverses ₦61.8bn Loss From 2024

August 4, 2025

International Breweries Plc has recorded a strong turnaround in its financial performance, posting a profit before tax of ₦26.4 billion for the second quarter of 2025, compared to a ₦61.8 billion loss recorded in the same period last year.

The Q2 result, covering the period from April 1 to June 30, reflects a significant rebound driven by a mix of improved revenue, lower finance costs, and operational efficiencies. The company’s unaudited financial statement shows that revenue rose by 39.5 percent year-on-year(YoY), jumping from ₦126 billion in Q2 2024 to ₦176 billion in Q2 2025.

Analysts attribute the impressive profit to a marked decline in finance costs, which dropped from ₦23.7 billion in Q2 2024 to ₦1.94 billion in Q2 2025. The company had previously suffered massive foreign exchange losses due to naira devaluation and high-interest obligations, but a more stable exchange rate environment in 2025 provided relief.

In addition to macroeconomic tailwinds, International Breweries implemented several internal reforms to boost efficiency and profitability. These include switching from diesel to compressed natural gas (CNG) for energy needs, tightening cost controls, and optimizing supply chain operations.

The company also benefited from increased demand and wider distribution of its core products, including Trophy Lager, Budweiser, and Beta Malt. The improved product mix and aggressive market strategies helped boost consumer engagement and brand performance.

For the first half of 2025, International Breweries reported a net profit after tax of ₦41.3 billion, in contrast to a ₦47 billion loss in the same period last year.

Industry analysts say the turnaround underscores the company’s strengthened financial discipline and the successful execution of a broader recovery strategy following its weak performance in 2024.

International Breweries Plc is a subsidiary of AB InBev, the world’s largest brewer.
