Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, has spoken on how former United States President, Donald Trump, will end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine if elected in the upcoming presidential election.

According to Orban, Trump will stop US funding Ukraine’s fighting of Russia’s invasion of its territory  and by that means, the conflict would end.

“He will not give a penny in the Ukraine-Russia war. That is why the war will end,” Orban said after meeting with Mr Trump in Florida.

The Hungarian leader met with Mr Trump on Friday in his Mar-a-Lago mansion where the former US president hailed his guest saying: “There’s nobody that’s better, smarter, or a

better leader than Viktor Orban. He’s fantastic.”

The Hungarian PM, who is a conservative, has been a long-term ally of Trump and currently supporting his return to the White House.

In an interview with Hungarian television channel, M1 TV, on Sunday, Orban said It is obvious that Ukraine cannot stand on its own in fighting Russia without getting support from allies like the United States and other European countries.

“If the Americans don’t give money and weapons, along with the Europeans, then the war is over. And if the Americans don’t give money, the Europeans alone are unable to finance this war. And then the war is over,” Orban told the TV channel.

Prime Business Africa reports that Trump  recently promised to end the war “within 24 hours” if elected – but did not give details of how he will do it.

Orban is also known to be on the side of Russian President, Vladimir Putin, ever since he launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022.

In contrast to many other Western countries, Mr Orban is unwilling to send arms to Ukraine, saying that Kyiv cannot defeat a nuclear-armed Russia.

EU officials are becoming more and more worried that if Trump is reelected, the US would significantly cut its financial and military support for NATO and Ukraine.

This comes as  resistance by Republicans in the US Congress has caused a $95 billion foreign aid which includes $60 billion in military funding to Ukraine has has not sailed through.

According to reports, the Republicans, who are publicly supported by Mr. Trump, declared that they will not permit the plan to pass the House of Representatives’ final stage unless they agree to approve additional financing for US border security.

Ukraine’s ability to combat Russia, which has far larger military force with an abundance of weapons, depends significantly on arms supply from the US, and other Western allies.
