In a stunning breakthrough, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued a 24-year-old Ghanaian national from the clutches of human traffickers in a daring operation that highlights the country’s commitment to combating transnational crimes.
The victim, who was lured to Nigeria with promises of travel to Canada, was found in Ofada, Ogun State, after a coordinated effort by operatives from the INTERPOL Annex, FCID Alagbon, Lagos.
The Sinister Plot
According to investigations, the victim and his father were trafficked into Nigeria in July 2025 by a 25-year-old Ghanaian national, Hassana Abban, who resides in Ofada, Ogun State. Abban allegedly obtained 40,000 Ghanaian Cedis (approximately N4,960,000) from the victim’s family, promising to facilitate their travel to Canada. However, upon arrival in Nigeria, their passports and phones were seized, and they were forced into suspected fraudulent online trading activities.

The Rescue Operation
Following a formal request for assistance from the National Central Bureau (NCB) Accra on September 15, 2025, a special team of police operatives tracked down the victim’s location, leading to their rescue on September 16, 2025. The operation also resulted in the arrest of five suspects, including Abban and four accomplices, comprising both Ghanaian and Nigerian nationals.

The suspects are currently in custody, and further investigations are ongoing. The rescued victim has been reunited with his family in Ghana, bringing closure to a harrowing ordeal.
