Gunmen Kill 12 In Nibo, Anambra Community

It was a black Sunday, on 20th October as gunmen invaded Nibo Community in Awka South, Anambra State, and killed 12 young men.

A video shared on social media showed bodies of the victims lying in their pool of blood at a market square in the community.

They were said to have been killed during a shooting that took place at Umunono, Umuanum village, and Oye Nibo axis. The young men were said to be drinking and celebrating the new yam festival (Onwa asaa) when the gunmen struck.

The incident caused panic and chaos as residents fled in different directions to escape further attacks.

Reacting to the incident, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, ordered immediate deployment of police operatives to the area to beef up security.

In a statement on Sunday, the Anambra Police Spokesperson, CP Toochukwu Ikenga, said the command has invited witnesses with useful information to come forward with such to enable it to identify the perpetrators.

 Ikenga assured that any information provided would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

He urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Command Control Room at 07039194332 or the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) at 08039334002.
