Gunmen Attack Adamawa State Police HQ Amid Tensions; Military Link Suspected

The Adamawa State Police Headquarters in Yola faced a harrowing assault by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday, causing widespread panic among Yola residents.

Nguroje assured that the situation was being managed, revealing that despite the attack being repelled, the identities of the assailants remained elusive. “We’re actively investigating to determine the motive and the individuals responsible,” he stated.

Speculation arose regarding the perpetrators’ identities, with one unverified source alleging the involvement of military personnel seeking retribution for the alleged killing of one of their own by the police.

Despite lacking independent confirmation, the police emphasized their commitment to unraveling the truth behind the assault.

This incident follows tensions between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Air Force, which saw a standoff at the EFCC headquarters in Kaduna.

Reports indicated that military personnel clashed with EFCC officials over the arrest of colleagues linked to alleged fraudulent activities, nearly leading to a dangerous exchange of gunfire.

The EFCC, in a subsequent statement, asserted its determination to carry out its duties without fear or intimidation. Inter-agency clashes, although not uncommon, have a history of turning violent, raising concerns about potential escalation.
