The statement said the grid collapse was caused by series of lines and generators that tripped off.

Though TCN  did not state why the power generators tripped off, causing instability on the grid, experts believe it might not be unconnected with gas supply constraints suffered by the generation companies (GenCos).

It said data from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo,  revealed that a part of the grid was not affected by the power disruption.

As at 04:45 pm, hourly generation data indicated that none of 20 power GenCos were supply a single megawatt of power as all were reading 0MW.

“TCN engineers are already working to quickly restore the bulk power to states affected by the partial disturbance,” TCN stated.
