Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has once again shown his unwavering commitment to supporting the brave soldiers who risk their lives to protect the region.

In a move that highlights the governor’s dedication to the welfare of those on the frontlines, he has approved the release of a substantial 10 million naira relief package for soldiers who have been wounded in battles across Borno.

This announcement comes as a realization of a promise made by Governor Zulum two months earlier during a significant Sallah celebration, where he stood alongside Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff.

The relief package, symbolizing the governor’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by the soldiers, was personally delivered by the Borno State Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman A Tar, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Barrister Mustapha Ali Busuguma.

The emotional gesture took place at the headquarters of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Professor Tar emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating, “We are here to fulfill the pledge made by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum. You may recall that the Governor was here on a Sallah day for an event, during which he expressed the commitment of the Borno State Government to the welfare of our troops and pledged a donation of N10m to wounded soldiers”

Governor Zulum’s commitment extends beyond this monetary gesture. He has consistently shown his dedication to not only supporting the soldiers directly but also assisting the Federal Government in improving logistics and overall troop welfare.

His acknowledgment of the military’s role in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace in Borno showcases his understanding of their invaluable contribution.

Major General Peter Malla, the GOC 7 Division, expressed sincere gratitude for the governor’s ongoing support, saying, “Let me on behalf of Theater Commander welcome you to 7 Division and want also express our appreciation to His Excellency for always supporting the military.”

Malla’s words echo the sentiments felt throughout the military as they continue their mission to eliminate the remnants of insurgents, ensuring a sustained period of peace in Borno.
