Ghanaian Govt Introduces Non Pre-Approval Visa on Arrival Dec. 2023 To Jan. 2024

In a bid to boost tourism during the upcoming festive season, the Ghanaian Government has authorized a Non Pre-Approval Visa on Arrival for tourists visiting the country from December 1, 2023, to January 15, 2024.

This decision, disclosed in a circular released by the Ghana Tourism Authority on November 22, aims to streamline the visa process and encourage increased visits to Ghana during this period.

According to the circular, the move aligns with the “December in GH” campaign, an integral part of the ten-year “Beyond the Return” initiative, as shared by a representative of the Ghana Tourism Authority:

“The visa-on-arrival program seeks to facilitate and drive higher arrivals to Ghana during the holiday season. By simplifying the visa process, the Government aims to entice more travellers to explore our rich cultural heritage and partake in vibrant events and festivals.”

The circular further emphasized the government’s commitment to bolstering Ghana’s status as a preferred destination for tourists and investors globally, fostering cultural exchanges, and stimulating economic growth.

Airlines operating within the country have been directed to update their systems to accommodate this new arrangement, as outlined in a letter from the Ghana Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah.

Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority welcomed the waiver, encouraging travellers to seize the opportunity and participate in the “December in GH” program.

He highlighted the campaign’s success since its inception in 2019, positioning Ghana as the go-to holiday destination, drawing in a diverse audience interested in exploring the country’s arts and culture.

“This campaign showcases a signature calendar of endorsed events by the Ghana Tourism Authority through the Beyond the Return Steering Committee,” added Agyeman. “It serves as a highly anticipated guide for travellers planning their visits centred around the array of activities and festivals on offer.”

The introduction of the Non Pre-Approval Visa on Arrival is poised to not only ease entry procedures but also to elevate Ghana’s allure as a festive season getaway, fostering connections between the global community and Ghana’s cultural tapestry.
