The NEC also confirmed the appointment of Basiru Ajibola as the ruling party’s new national secretary.

Ganduje replaces Abdullahi Adamu as APC’s National Chairman while Ajibola replaced Iyiola Omisore as the national secretary.

Recall that Adamu and Omisore had, in July, resigned as National Chairman and National Secretary respectively.

In his address, Ganduje, who thanked the party members for giving him the opportunity to lead the party, promised to do all within his ability to move the party forward and for also the progress of the country. He said his main focus would be to unite members of the party, consolidate their strongholds and win more executive and legislative seats.

While disclosing his intention to carry out more reforms in the party, Ganduje promised that “internal democracy will be strictly adhered to with a deliberate policy to engage in wider consultations and making party functional throughout the year.”

He appealed to Nigerians to bear with the president at this trying moment and expressed optimism that policies and programmes to be unveiled by the president “when his administration takes shape, will surely turn around things for the better.”

“Our party must remain rooted among the people, must demonstrate a willingness to serve and make sacrifices, and must be willing to acknowledge and address our weaknesses,” he added.

He also called on members of the party in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa States where governorship will take place on November 11, to “close ranks and ensure that the APC wins in the forthcoming governorship elections.”

He called on all members of the party to give the necessary support to help him deliver.

Earlier in his address, president Tinubu thanked all members of the party including old and new leaders for their efforts that led to his victory in the last election.

He also stressed the need for unity in the party and pledged to tackle governance issues before him for the good of all the citizens
