FHA Refutes Plans To Demolish 1,500 Houses In Abuja Amid Residents’ Outcry

The Head of Press and Publicity Unit at the FHA, Kenneth Chigelu has debunked the allegations made by residents of the Zhidu community, near Lugbe Phase II in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to demolish 1,500 houses to make way for a private housing estate.

Chigelu clarified that the FHA was not behind the planned demolition, asserting that the agency had acquired land from the Federal Capital Territory Administration for housing development.

He mentioned an ongoing exercise to identify and remove illegal developments encroaching on the authority’s land, emphasizing the necessity to clear the right-of-way for the Ring Road servicing the area.

Furthermore, he urged individuals with legitimate claims to land within the FHA’s parcel to provide proof of ownership and building approval for documentation. Chigelu condemned the alleged misinformation and affirmed the agency’s stance against accommodating slum development within its estates.

This dispute follows a similar event in Lagos, where the FHA previously demolished hundreds of houses in Festac Town.
