Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi on Monday evening played in his 25th Premier League game of the 2022/2023 season as Leicester City’s hopes to avoid relegation to the Championship took a deep knock with a 5-3 defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Fellow Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho was missing from the matchday squad as he nurses a muscle injury

Fulham got ahead through Brazilian winger Willian in the 10th minute as he got on the scoresheet with a perfectly taken free kick. The ball flew inside the right hand corner.

England and Leicester midfielder James Maddison produced an inaccurate low pass into the box that was blocked by the one of the defenders afterwards.

The home side doubled their lead eight minutes after the first goal through Carlos Vinicius who drilled a shot into the bottom right corner after he brilliantly controlled the ball at the edge of the box.

Jamie Vardy let fly a powerful shot towards the inside left post but Bernd Leno produced a great save to deny the Foxes’ legend.

Tom Cairney made it 3-0 in the 44th minute when he latched the ball into the bottom right corner after he profitted from a Carlos Vinicius pass.

With 51 minutes played, Carney came up with the fourth goal for the Cottagers to probably kill off any comeback hopes for Dean Smith’s side.

However, Harvey Barnes put some respectability to the score line when he cracked a shot from close range after James Maddison teed him up with almost an hour played.

Nigeria international, Ndidi then came on few seconds later for Belgian Youri Tielemans.

Things got worse for 2015/2016 English Premier League champions Leicester who are in serous danger of relegation in the 70th minute as Willian grabbed his brace for the day.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal forward broke through before picking a brilliant pass and unleashing a precise strike to beat the Leicester goalkeeper. The ball went into the bottom right corner.

Fulham’s Joao Palhinha committed a foul after bringing down his opponent with a slide tackle. Maddison stepped up and took the spot kick nine minutes to fulltime and scored.

Leicester forward Harvey Barnes had been one bright spot for his team in the game and he scored his second but team’s thord goal of the evening in the 89th minute with a simple finish to bring the score to 5-3.
