EPL: Silva Lauds Iwobi, Bassey For Decisive Goals Against Man United

Fulham manager Marco Silva has heaped plaudits on the duo of Super Eagles stars, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi, for their splendid performances on Fulham’s 2-1 away win at Manchester United on Saturday evening.

The Nigerians were on international duty for the three-time African champions at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire where they were runners up.

Silva admitted in his post match press conference how much the Cottafers had missed their prized assets.

“Of course, it’s always an important moment (scoring your first goal). But not just him this afternoon. The two players (Bassey and Iwobi) that were at the Africa Cup (of Nations). And that we miss them,” Silva who worked with Iwobi previously at Everton noted.

“They were decisive in terms of the goal. It just shows how they are important for us in the way I want to play, in our way. It’s really nice to see both scoring goals and helping us to win,” Silva who last summer turned down an offer from a Saudi Arabian Pro League side told the media.

The defeat was United’s first of the season in their home ground while it became Fulham’s first victory over them at the Old Trafford since 1963.

Fulham remained in 12th place in the Premier League standings irrespective of results elsewhere in the top division this weekend.
