Chelsea may still be in 10th place on the Premier League table but they have a good reason for optimism as they clinched their consecutive win within few days after Saturday’s nervous 3-2 win over a defiant Luton Town.

The last game of the year 2023 for both teams was a befitting gift for those fans present at Kenilworth Road, the home ground of Luton.

First, Cole Palmer struck twice and provided the assist from which England U-21 international of Nigerian descent, Noni Madueke scored his second goal in as many games.

Palmer was declared the Man of the Match in the game which saw the Blues arrest a four-match losing streak away from home.

Luton fought valiantly in the game as Nigerian-born Elijah Adebayo saw a goal cancelled by VAR for offside.

But there was no stopping the promoted side as they scored twice in the closing stages of the game thanks to Ross Barley, another Luton star with Nigerian roots, and Adebayo whose near post finish was clearly a legitimate goal.

Madueke was the only change made by Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino in the starting lineup that faced Crystal Palace, rewarding the winger for his inspired performance against the Eagles where he scored from the penalty spot.
