Somto BisinaNigerian YouTuber, Emdee Tiamiyu, has firmly stood by his statements made during a controversial interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
Despite facing intense backlash following the interview, Tiamiyu expressed his unwavering commitment to his words.
During the interview, Tiamiyu stated that Nigerians seeking admission into universities in the United Kingdom were primarily using it as a means to escape from Nigeria rather than pursuing new qualifications.

He emphasized that many individuals were utilizing the student route as a means of relocating abroad and starting a new life.
According to Tiamiyu, “The student route is more like an answered prayer. It is a big bracket that’s able to take a lot of people, the ordinary people.” He further added, “We’re beginning to see that a lot of people just hide behind the studentship. So the student thing is not real, it’s not like they need the degrees.”
These remarks sparked discontent among Nigerians, who took to social media to criticize Tiamiyu and accused him of sabotage and betrayal.
The backlash coincided with the UK’s announcement to ban Nigerians and other immigrants from bringing their dependents to the country if granted study visas.
In response to the overwhelming criticism, Tiamiyu hosted a Twitter Space session where he clarified that his intention was not to seek popularity through the interview.
He expressed gratitude for being one of the leading voices and emphasized that his aim was to have a meaningful impact. Tiamiyu stated, “I talk real, I am very, very real. DJ Real is learning from me. I am very humane and personable.”
In a separate video chat with broadcaster Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, Tiamiyu acknowledged the need to strike a balance between being real and diplomatic.
Recognizing the existence of future opportunities, he expressed his willingness to find a middle ground that respects both authenticity and diplomacy. Tiamiyu acknowledged, “If you want to be real, you will offend people.”
While Tiamiyu’s statements have generated controversy and divided opinions, he remains resolute in his conviction. As discussions around the interview continue, it is clear that Tiamiyu is unafraid to express his perspective, even in the face of criticism.
This only affects southerners, northerners hardly stay after graduation.
