Labour Party candidate for the 2023 gubernatorial elections in Enugu State, Hon Chijioke Edeoga, has congratulated the Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, as well as those successfully elected into the National Assembly in the last Saturday’s polls in the state.

He said their victory is a victory for the people and thanked them for voting massively for the Labour Party.

Edoga, who has emerged as the clear favourite to become the next Governor of Enugu State, said that the overwhelming support for Labour Party at the elections is proof “that Enugu people are determined to take back their state.”

He said: “I want to congratulate our leader, Mr. Peter Obi, for showing us that the people are the true structure of politics and governance. I want to congratulate our Senator-elect and all our House of Representatives-elect for emerging victorious. Our people spoke with one voice. Our people showed that they are prepared to decide their future and help in rebuilding Enugu State.”

“We are very grateful to our people for this overwhelming support. I can’t be prouder of them and Labour Party will do everything possible to reward our people with good governance. Finally, the people have taken back their state,” Edoga said.

Labour Party won a total of 428,640, or 95% of total votes cast for the presidential election, while it captured one of the two senatorial seats up grab in the state. Enugu East Senatorial election will be held at a later date due to the gruesome murder of our candidate, Barr. Oyibo Chukwu. Our party also captured seven out of the eight House of Representatives seats available in Enugu State.

A notable casualty of the sweeping Labour Party victory is the resounding defeat of the incumbent Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, by Barr. Okey Ezea aka Ideke in the contest for the Enugu North Senatorial seat.

Chijioke Edeoga said that the people are energized and ready to vote for Labour Party at the forthcoming gubernatorial elections on March 11.

“Our people have shown that their heart is with Labour Party. After many years of poor governance the people are determined to bury PDP as a political party in Enugu State and I am grateful to God and our people for the opportunity and privilege to be in the vanguard of this revolution.”

The victory of Labour Party in the last Saturday’s election in the state marked a turning point in the political history of the state that has been dominated by the the PDP since 1999.

Edoga will on March 11, slug it out with PDP’s governorship candidate, Barr. Peter Mbah.
