D’banj decried the reports in some sections of the media (not Prime Business Africa) that he had been in the custody of the ICPC over unestablished allegations of fraud.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Maryam El-Yakub Musa, the legal adviser to the musician.

The statement from the legal counsel read in part: “It is instructive to state foremost that the report concerning the arrest and detention of Mr Daniel Oladapo Oyebanjo is misconceived, malicious and prejudicial to the justice system anywhere in the world, and we would advise that the general public be well guided.

D’banj  who was one of the judges in Season 7 of the Nigerian Idol 2022 insisted that he has no contractual or incidental relationship whatsoever with any group or persons within or outside the Government with widespread allegations making the rounds that he had been arrested and detained over the investigation of fraud associated with the N-Power Programme.

“For the record, D’banj has no such contractual or incidental relationship whatsoever with any group or persons within or outside the Government in relation to the disbursement, operations, access or control of the operation of any government fund through an agency or its subsidiaries,” the statement read further.

“D’banj has encouraged the Commission to carry out its investigation thoroughly to ensure that characters attempting to bring him into such ridiculous activities must be brought to book,” the statement concluded.

Nigeria celebrities in the entertainment industry have been at the receiving end of numerous controversies bothering on failed romantic relationships, financial issues and recently their growing fondness for partisan politics.

D’banj had a humble beginning in the entertainment industry. He reportedly once worked as a security officer in a abroad before his big break.
