An ethnic bigot who raised dust over Davido’s close association with the Igbos, has received a dose of bitter pills not only from the Afrobeats super star but also from Netizens.

The apparently embittered X user @Yakbel on Tuesday cautioned the singer against maintaining close ties with Igbos, suggesting that they would eventually betray him.

He, however, failed to give the multiple award winning singer and songwriter a catalogue of betrayals by the Igbos to prove his point.

The user wrote, “Davido just dey carry Ibo full body, until when dem betray am before e rest. Yoruba boy dey frolick with Ibos in 2025, they want your head and everything you have to belong to them. You can never satisfy Ibos ooo. IBOs are not people you surround yourself with as a Yoruba man.”

In a swift and clear response, Davido dismissed the tribal sentiment, replying, “Lol, I AM IGBO by blood.”

The singer’s statement has since sparked widespread reactions, with many praising him for rejecting divisive rhetoric and affirming unity across Nigeria’s ethnic lines.

Davido whose grandmother, late Dr. Mrs Nnenna Esther Adeleke was Igbo, was given a pat on the back by Netizens who viewed his response as a more matured and intentional effort not to join those who sow seed of discord in the country even as some queried how Davido’s close association with Igbos affects anyone.

Some netizens opine that in descent clans people who come out publicly to show ethnic bigotry face the wrath of the law to serve as deterrent to others, noting that  when unity in diversity is given only lip service, ethnic bigotry reign supreme.

Meanwhile, Davido, the Emi Omo Baba Olowo maestro has revealed that he would have been a member of the pen pushing profession had he not settled for musical career.

Speaking during a recent chat with 96.1 The Beat in Atlanta, the alumnus of Oakwood University and Babcock University respectively, revealed his love for media engagements and conversations, noting that it is an integral part of the entertainment industry.

Davido stated, “I like promo, I like conversations. A lot of people don’t know that I studied marketing apart from business management. I like to market myself, I love to talk. If I had a podcast, I talk for like three to four days [laughs].”

He emphasised his belief that public relations is an integral aspect of being an artist, pointing out that while many major artistes shy away from media appearances, he embraces them.

“I just feel like it’s part of being an artist. A lot of big artists don’t do press but I do because I can talk. But some people just don’t want to talk. When people meet me, I like to have conversations, I like to know things, I like information. Even at home, I’m also researching. If I wasn’t doing music, I will definitely be in journalism,” he said.
