'Crying' Crucifix: More People Throng Venue To Pray, Take Pictures

On another visit to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Onitsha, Anambra State on Thursday morning, it was noticed that the crowd at the site of the incident had increased, as people who were unable to visit the church on Wednesday came around to see for themselves.

Apart from those who came to take pictures, some worshippers could be seen at the foot of the crucifix praying, with others while trying to get hold on the water dropping from it.

A female resident of the area who engaged our correspondent in Igbo language said,  “the water from the cross isn’t really dropping today as opposed to yesterday when it was dropping in torrents.”

Another resident of the area, Mr. Lukman on his part expressed some level of skepticism saying, “it’s like there’s no longer water in the tap around the area as everyone has been running to the church since yesterday to see for themselves but I don’t believe them as I only saw tap dropping,” he however agreed to it being the handwork of God.

” I believe it’s the hand of God though as I believe in miracles as there’s nothing God cannot do, but to think the water isn’t dropping from the eyes but the legs create doubts in my heart.”

Another resident who also spoke in Igbo when asked about his observation on the incident said he was speechless.

“I don’t know where to start from because this is really surprising to me, more so because the water is dropping from the legs and not the eyes  any more.”

Another onlooker, Emmanuel Chinecherem, said: ” I came to see the crucifix yesterday and observed the water was dropping from the legs, but when I came again today to take some pictures and make more observations, I noticed before the water drops, it would take some minutes.”   He further said that on asking others, so many seemed not to have observed anything but have only come to take pictures with others who were there to pray.

Mr Emmanuel concluded by saying “What I believe is that the water would work wonders for anyone who believes in its potency but it won’t work for those who don’t believe in it.”

Attempts to get an official of the Church to comment on the matter still did not  yield fruits even as the church has become a pilgrimage centre of sorts in the area.
