CKC Onitsha Wins ‘Outstanding School Of The Year In Africa’ Award For 2024

Christ the King College, Onitsha in Anambra State, Nigeria, has won the “Outstanding School of the Year in Africa” award for 2024.

The award was delivered to the school today, 5th of April 2025, at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, by the Global Skills Hub, United Kingdom (UK), on the occasion of the 3rd Africa Education Summit.

Present to receive the award was the Principal/Manager of CKC Onitsha, Rev. Fr. Dr Celestine Arinze Okafor.

The Archbishop of Onitsha Catholic Diocese, His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, was also present at the summit when the award was given to the school.

This adds to the record of awards won by CKC Onitsha for excellence in academics and human development.

 

CKC Onitsha Wins ‘Outstanding School Of The Year In Africa’ Award For 2024

The third edition of the Africa Education Summit, which opened on Friday, 4th of April in Victoria Falls, brought together key stakeholders from across the continent to advance education.

The summit, which is dedicated to fostering educational progress in Africa, was organised by the Global Skills Hub UK, Africa Education Stakeholders, and the Government of Zimbabwe, with the theme, “Translating our Educational Advancement to Continental Development.”

Last year, CKC Onitsha represented Nigeria at the prestigious World Affairs Challenge (WAC) 2024 and secured the coveted global first-place position. That feat marked the first time Nigeria got a Gold medal in the competition’s 32-year history.

The mission school, which is managed by the Archdiocese of Onitsha, was named as the “Best Secondary School in Anambra State for 2024.” The recognition was based on the school’s outstanding academic performance, infrastructural development, and exceptional achievements in national and international competitions.

The school recorded an outstanding performance in the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), with 128 out of 131 students scoring an A1 in WASSCE Mathematics and 125 students making at least seven distinctions.

The 92-year-old school has a history of producing high-achieving students who have gone on to become leaders in various fields. Among the products of the school are three former state governors, medical professionals, first-class academics, and captains of industry.
