Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw against Salzburg on Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League Wednesday night at Stanford Bridge with Carney Chukwuemeka named among the substitutes by New manager Graham Potter.

The young midfielder of Nigerian descent arrived West London from Aston Villa on a £20m deal and has been tipped for big things in the game.

Salzburg had Noah Okafor who has Nigerian roots in attack but the duo of Samson Tijani and Justin Omoregie were out through injuries.

Chelsea created a few great channces in the first half but were repelled by a disciplined Salzburg defence.

Raheem Sterling broke Salzburg’s resistance three minutes into the second half when he let fly a low shot to fimd the bottom of the right hand corner at the edge of the box after Mason Mount delivered a great low cross to him for the fourth goal for his new team.

Chelsea came close to scoring for their teams but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz could not put away the chances on the plate for them.

Okafor then equalised for the visitors in the 75th minute from close range beating off an offside trap to convert a Junior Adamu assist

Armando Broja wasted the last chance for Chelsea to win it towards the end of the game.

Chelsea’s next Champions League game is a fixture against AC Milan.

Chelsea are bottom of the Group E table after two matches.
