CHAN 2024: Eagles Get Preparation Boost As CAF Postpones Tournament

Draw still Holds Tonight

Super Eagles Team B otherwise called CHAN Eagles have been handed preparation boost after CAF announced postponement of the tournament till August 2025.

The announcement became necessary after CAF Technical and Infrastructure Experts recommended such to enable host nations finish facility upgrades to ensure better championship.

The Continental soccer ruling body noted that “Good progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda with the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals and other infrastructure and facilities for the hosting of a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.

However, the CAF Technical and Infrastructure experts some of whom have been based in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, have advised CAF that more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities, are at the levels, necessary for hosting a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024”

The championship was originally billed to kick off from February 1 and run till 28. The exact date in August 2025 of the commencement of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (“CHAN”)  Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 according to CAF will be announced in due course.

The shift in date is a blessing in disguise for Super Eagles and new coach Eric Chelle who only yesterday joined the CHAN Eagles training camp at the Remo stars sports centre alongside NFF Head of Technical Department and former Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen.

The group travelled from Abuja to Lagos shortly after Chelle’s unveiling, and then to the Remo Stars’ Sports Institute in Ogun State.

At the unveiling of Coach Chelle, NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, emphasised that Chelle will serve in a supervisory role, while the coaching trio of Daniel Ogunmodede, Fidelis Ilechukwu, and Olatunji Baruwa, who successfully led the team to qualification, will oversee the team’s preparations for the tournament.

The shift will afford the team added opportunity to put finishing touches to preparation with a view to posting an impressive run a the tournament. Nigeria is yet to get hold of the title since its inception in 2009.

Meanwhile draw for the tournament nonetheless still holds today (Wednesday) night  at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (“KICC”) in Nairobi, Kenya despite the shift.

It will feature local East African legends Hassan Wasswa (Uganda), Mrisho Ngasa (Tanzania) and McDonald Mariga (Kenya), the latter having been born and raised in Nairobi, as draw assistants.

Co-hosts Kenya are making a debut at the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship finals, while Uganda and Tanzania have already had a taste of the tournament.
