The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) fined Zenith Bank N1.95 billion between January and December 2025 for various infractions.

Other penalties include irregular asset acquisition, late reporting of cybersecurity issues, non-compliance with the CBN policy on intervention facility, foreign exchange (FX) utilisation contraventions, spot check issues, and penalty for branch structure.

It was gathered that out of the N1.95 billion penalty recorded by Zenith Bank, fine for non-compliance with the CBN policy on intervention facility accounted for N1.41 billion.

Also, ATM cash outage accounted for N300 million, spot check N100 million, and late reporting of cybersecurity issues accounted for N74 million.

In addition, Zenith Bank was fined N20 million for irregular asset acquisition, N40 million for FX utilisation contraventions, N5 million for penalty relating to branch structure, and N97,500 for cash management contravention.

However, the penalty recorded by Zenith Bank in 2025 dropped below the N15.42 billion fines imposed on the financial institution in 2024, but was higher than the N21 million recorded in 2023.

The fine came at a time when the company’s profit dropped after poor revenue growth and a trading loss of N63 billion in 2025.
