Cargo Owners Lament High Cost of Transportation

Cargo owners have expressed concern over the increasing cost of transporting containers to warehouses in Nigeria.

Speaking with Mr Gerald Mmadike, a consultant and freight forwarder at Apapa, they complained that transportation prices had risen three times higher than what it used to be, affecting their business and creating unexpected expenses.

Highlighting some of the challenges of the business, the consultant mentioned the scarcity of trucks, noting that many truck owners take advantage of the unavailability of trucks, to exploit cargo owners, transportation wise.

He further expressed concern over the fact that many truck owners are unqualified, and therefore lack Transportation Insurance, which is the only guarantee cargo owners leverage to recover their goods, should there be cases of accidents, loss or damage of their products.
