The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon came from two goals behind to seal a 3-3 draw with Serbia in a thrilling affair at the World Cup in Qatar on Monday.

Nantes of France defender Jean-Charles Castelletto gave Cameroon the lead in the 29th minute before Strahinja Pavlovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic struck back to put Serbia ahead at halftime.

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic added a third for Serbia after the break as it looked to be cruising to a victory, but Cameroon substitute Vincent Aboubakar had different ideas.

The 30-year-old, who finished as top scorer at last year’s Africa Cup of Nations, scored a superb scooped lob before teeing up Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s equaliser just three minutes later.

Many African football supporters feared the worst when the Indomitable Lions went 3-1 down.

The Group G tie means that both teams go into the third game of the group on Friday with a chance to advance to the last 16 of the tournament.

Cameroon will face tournament favourites Brazil while Serbia have a date against Switzerland.

The top team will play Group H’s runners up while the second will confront whoever emerges tops in Group H.

The Camerioonan FA President and four-time African Footballer of the Year Samuel Eto’ Fils before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar boasted that his country’s national team have the wherewithal to reach the final of the 22nd edition of the World Cup.

The former Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Everton and Anzhi Mashashkala striker went ahead to predict an all African final against the Atlas Lions of Morocco on the 18th of December.

Cameron are Africa’s most consistent team at the World Cup with eight appearances. Their best performance remains the 1990 tournament in Italy where they reached the quarterfinals stage.

Cameroon defeated then champions Argentina 1-0 on 8 June 1990 in the first game of the tournament.
