CAF Awards To Hold December 11, Osimhen Tops List Of Final Nominees For Men’s Category

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, on Tuesday confirmed via its official website that the 2023 edition of the prestigious CAF Player of The year awards will hold on 11 December 2023 in Rabat, Morocco.

The awards will recognise the outstanding players from club and country over the past year, with the CAF African Player of the Year in both the men’s and women’s category as the highlight of the event.

The men’s list initially consisted of 30 players but has been pruned down to four with Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen topping the list of a quartet that also includes Mohamed Salah (Liverpool and Egypt), Yaccine Bosounu (Sevilla and Morroco) and Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City and Algeria).

Bayern Munich and Senegal Star, Sadio Mane is the current Men’s Player of the Year having won the award at the last edition.

Asisat Oshoala, who plies her trade for Barcelona Femeni scooped the women’s crown in 2022.

Oshoala has dominated the category in recent years winning in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022.

There are other several categories which will be contested for at the awards ceremony.

The selection of nominees was made by a stakeholder panel consisting of Technical Experts, CAF Legends, and Journalists. The panel took into account the performances of the nominees from September 2022 to June 2023 across all levels of the game.

The winners in each category will be determined through a voting process involving a panel composed of the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, Head Coaches & Captains of Member Associations, as well as clubs participating in the group stage of the Interclub competitions.

Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
