CAC Uncovers 189 Fake Companies Used For Land Allocation Scam

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has uncovered 189 fake companies involved in a nefarious scheme to secure land allocations in the Federal Capital Territory. The announcement was made Tuesday by the Registrar-General of CAC, Hussaini Magaji.

At a press conference in Abuja, Magaji said, “Let me use this opportunity to inform the public that one of the major milestones achieved so far since I assumed office is our ability to bust a cartel or a link of individuals that are creating havoc for the commission.”

He continued, “This cartel creates companies through collaboration with some lawyers claiming to be accredited agents of the commission and staff of Abuja Geographical Information System to secure land allocations in the FCT.”

The discovery came to light after a complaint from the Federal Capital Territory Administration raised concerns about a non-existent company seeking land allocation.

Magaji explained, “With the information available to us, I gave a directive on the issue, and we have so far identified 189 fake companies used to secure land allocation in the FCT. We have also facilitated the arrest of two suspects.”

The CAC boss also shed light on the cartel’s modus operandi, revealing that they manipulated the land allocation process to prioritize their applications over legitimate ones, resulting in widespread land fraud in the capital city.

Magaji emphasized that the Commission’s vision includes increasing revenue and focusing on human capital development.

He stated, “I think this is essential to the discharge of the responsibilities of any staff in the commission.”

He also addressed issues related to staff welfare and emphasized the commitment to addressing them.
