President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres and Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed on their re-appointment for a second term.
The President’s message was contained in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu in Abuja over the weekend.
Buhari said he was hopeful that both Guterres and Mohammed’s passion to promote peace, alleviate poverty, improve health and empower people would gain speed and results.
According to the statement, Buhari is positive that Mohammed’s stay in office will help encourage more women and the girl-child, particularly in Africa and Nigeria, to aspire to new heights of leadership and dream beyond the borders of their country.
Mohammed is a former Minister of Environment in Nigeria. Prime Business had earlier reported her reappointment as UN Deputy Secretary-General by Mr. Guterres.
