Bordeaux Places Super Eagles Forwards Kalu, Maja On Transfer Market As Winter Window Opens

As the January transfer window opens today (1 January 2022) reports from France indicate that Ligue 1 side Borduex has placed Super Eagles duo of Samuel Kalu and Josh Maja on the transfer market.

The Nigerians who were not named in Nigeria’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations are among five players of the club Les Girondins have transferlisted.

According to Foot Mercato, per GFFN, Bordeaux want to sell these players to raise money to bring in reinforcements.

It has been a frustrating campaign for both Kalu and Maja. The former has played just 323 minutes of Ligue 1 football this season, with just one goal and one assist to show for it.

He has only played just two minutes of league football in Bordeaux’s last five matches. If Kalu’s case is bad, then Majar’s situation is worse.

The 23-year-old has not found life easy in the southwest of France since he moved from Sunderland in January 2019.

Maja is yet to play a league match under Vladimir Petković this season, with his lone appearance coming in the Coupe De France win over M’Zouasia.

He spent the second part of last season on loan at Fulham, but he could not help the Cottagers avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Nonetheless, a move back to England could be on the cards again.
