President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action, summoning Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo over his alleged implication in the contentious N438 million contract scandal involving suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.

According to a report, the President’s summoning of Mr. Tunji-Ojo on Tuesday signals a moment in the unfolding controversy.

The Minister is now expected to provide clarification regarding his role in the contract awarded to New Planet Project Limited, a company reportedly linked to him.

In response to these allegations, Mr. Tunji-Ojo defended himself during a televised interview, denying any involvement in the contract’s execution.

He emphasized his resignation from the company’s directorship back in 2019, highlighting that he was no longer a signatory to the firm.

The Minister clarified, stating, “I am not a signatory to the company… the company in question was a company where I was a director. About five years ago, I had resigned from my directorship.”

He also revealed that despite resigning as a director, he remained a shareholder in the company, citing no breach of public service rules regarding his status as a shareholder.

This development comes in the wake of President Tinubu’s suspension of Minister Betta Edu on Monday, citing the alleged diversion of funds amounting to over N585 million into a private account.

The summons issued to Minister Tunji-Ojo underscores the gravity of the situation, as the government intensifies efforts to address and investigate instances of alleged financial impropriety within its ranks.
