Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa, has described rhetoric over killings in Benue as mere pouring of water on rocks, with no effects whatsoever.

The former Al Nassr striker said it is absurd for government to sit and watch blood letting go on unabated only to condemn the act and move on just like that. He condemned leaders in the country who put politics above other things noting that they rather ought to be showing consistency and commitment to good governance.

Safety and sanctity of human life according to the former Super Eagles Captain who has been performing well since joining Kano Pillars after this exploits abroad, should be paramount in the mind of every true leader.

Musa’s heartfelt statement adds to the growing list of national and international reactions to the tragedy, which reportedly claimed over 200 lives. Local reports suggest entire families were wiped out, with some victims burned alive during the attacks.

Global leaders have also taken note. At the Vatican, Pope Leo XVI offered prayers for the victims during his Sunday Angelus, describing the events as a “terrible massacre.”

Meanwhile, the Benue State House of Assembly has called for immediate release of 14 protesters arrested by security operatives during a demonstration over the mass killings in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area.

The resolution followed deliberations during plenary on Tuesday, where lawmakers also urged the state and federal authorities to step up efforts in protecting vulnerable communities from continued attacks by suspected armed herdsmen.

Angry youths had on Sunday staged a massive protest along the Abuja-Makurdi highway, blocking traffic and wielding placards and palm fronds while dressed in black to mourn the slain villagers. Arresting the protesters some respondents say is like beating a child and telling him not to cry.

The latest violence in Yelewata unfolded around 10 p.m. on Friday, when suspected herdsmen launched a coordinated attack on the community, leaving scores dead and many others injured.
