Benue Govt Acquires 100 Buses To Alleviate The Impact Of Fuel Subsidy Removal

In a move aimed at easing the hardships caused by the removal of petrol subsidies, the Benue State Government has announced the procurement of 100 buses allocated to Benue Links, the state-owned transportation company.

Governor Hyacinth Alia delivered this unexpected announcement during a radio and television broadcast as part of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary celebrations.

Governor Alia acknowledged the challenges faced by the people due to the elimination of fuel subsidies and other economic difficulties.

He empathized with the citizens, saying, “Our good people of Benue, I share the pains most of you are going through; and I assure you that your resilience and patience would not be in vain as this administration continues to reposition, as well as strengthen our institutions for good governance.”

“I want to assure you that succor is on the way. In the meantime, we have procured 100 buses, which will soon be handed over to Benue Links, the state’s transportation company, to offer affordable transportation services to the public.”

Additionally, Governor Alia revealed plans to provide financial assistance of N50,000 each to market women across the state, aiming to boost their small-scale trading businesses.

He emphasized the critical role of security in achieving the administration’s ambitious goals for good governance, highlighting the need to address issues such as violence, killings, kidnappings, banditry, and communal conflicts.

On the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, Governor Alia urged citizens to honor the nation’s past heroes who fought for political freedom.

He expressed gratitude for the country’s endurance through various challenges and storms over the past 63 years. Governor Alia encouraged retrospection and called for a brighter future, especially for a state like Benue, which holds immense potential to rise among the nation’s leading states.
