The trading floor in the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) was dominated by banks on Wednesday, with the all-share index (ASI) expanding by 3.30 percent following an increase in trading activities.
According to the NGX, the all-share index appreciated by 7,563.02 basis points, from Tuesday’s 228,740.19 ASI to 236,303.21 ASI.

Over 1.08 billion shares were exchanged in 74,660 deals, valued at N55.72 billion on the trading floor, surpassing the 907.96 million shares traded in 72,886 deals, valued at N68.23 billion, on Tuesday.
Top five gainers
- UAC Nigeria’s share price increased by N15, from N150 to N165 per share.
- Zichis’ share value grew by N1.80 kobo, from N18 to N19.80 kobo per share.
- Chemical and Allied Products’ share appreciated by N12 to end trading at N132, having opened with N120.
- Airtel Africa ended trading at N3,021 per share, from N2,746.70 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N274.60 kobo.
- Jaiz Bank’s share value was up by N0.80 kobo, after closing at N8.81 kobo from N8.01 per share.
Top five losers
- John Holt share price depreciated by N1.40 kobo dwindling from N14 to N12.60 kobo per share.
- Cadbury recorded a N7.35 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N66.15 kobo after opening with N73.50 kobo per share.
- HMCall recorded a N0.37 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N3.43 kobo after opening with N3.80 kobo per share.
- Sunu Assurance lost N0.43 kobo in its share price, to sell at N4.07 from N4.50 kobo per share.
- FTN Cocoa reported a decline of N0.50 kobo from the previous share price of N5.50 kobo to end trading at N5 per share.

- Access Holdings reported that 242.42 million shares valued at N6.27 billion were traded on its floor.
- UBA recorded 149.10 million shares valued at N6.46 billion.
- Lasaco saw investors trade 73.97 million of its shares valued at N144.48 million.
- Wema Bank recorded 55.07 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N1.89 billion.
- Zenith Bank reported that traders exchanged 44.56 million shares valued at N5.54 billion.
