Attack On Donald Trump 'Distasteful' - Tinubu

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has joined other leaders across the world to condemn the attack on former United States President, Donald Trump, describing it as “distasteful.”

Prime Business Africa reports that Trump, who is contesting the upcoming U.S. presidential election under the Republican Party, was attacked at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

The attacker, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired about shots from a roof which killed one and injured two attendees of the rally. Trump suffered a minor injury on the part of his ear, but is said to be safe after medication.

Tinubu in a statement via his verified X handle on Sunday, said such incident against democratic norms.

The Nigerian leader extended his sympathies to Trump, wishing him quick recovery.

His statement reads: “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.

“I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery.

“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”
